NYNEX Offers Direct Phone Bill Payment Option

(NEW YORK) -- NYNEX is now offering a new, easy, and convenient way for its customers to pay their telephone bills.

The NYNEX Direct Payment Option is a free service that offers a reliable and safe method of paying NYNEX bills electronically. Direct Payment means no late or lost payments, no check to write, no bill to mail, and no stamp to buy.

"The NYNEX Direct Payment Option makes it easy to do business with NYNEX," said Art Williams, NYNEX’s director of billing. "“Our customers have been asking for this option and we’re happy to be providing it."

The Chase Manhattan Bank is providing the electronic processing service that is the foundation of the NYNEX Direct Payment Option. "This new service is a win-win service for NYNEX and its customers," said Mary McKenney, vice president of Global Payment and Treasury Services with Chase. "Both benefit from the lower costs of electronic payments, and NYNEX customers also gain the convenience of paying their bill electronically and knowing in advance the amount to be debited from their bank account."

NYNEX customers who choose this option, agree to have their bank account automatically debited each month to pay their bill. They receive a statement approximately 10 days prior to the debit date with the exact dollar amount to be paid. If they wish to pay a different amount, they call the NYNEX customer service office with the exact amount to be debited. Otherwise, the amount due transfers automatically to NYNEX on the "pay by" date printed on each month's bill.

Customers still receive their bills, have time to review the charges, and to note the "pay by" date. The customer’s bank statement shows the details of the transferred amount, and there is no canceled check.

It’s easy to sign up for this service, according to Williams. An enrollment form is on the back of the payment stub of this month's bill.

"We’re asking our customers to read the form carefully," says Williams. "Then, just check the enrollment box, date and sign the authorization agreement, and return it along with your payment."

Customers should pay this month’s bill with a check from the account number they want NYNEX to use for the Direct Payment Option. NYNEX will notify the customer’s bank and make the arrangements for the automatic transfer each month.

Calling NYNEX to sign up for the program is not necessary. However, to find out more about the Direct Payment Option, customers can call the NYNEX NewsLine, toll free, at 1-800-322-3558 (Spanish 1-800-882-7818) or for TTY users, 1-800-299-2597.
