August 22, 1996 CONTACT: John Johnson of NYNEX, 617-743-3677 NYNEX Reaches Agreement With WinStar To Interconnect Telephone Networks in Massachusetts BOSTON, Aug. 22 -- NYNEX (NYSE: NYN) announced today that it has signed an interconnection agreement with WinStar Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: WCII) in Massachusetts designed to meet the 14-point checklist detailed in the Telecommunications Act of 1996, one of the requirements for NYNEX's entry into the long-distance market here. "This agreement, like the one we signed June 27 with MFS Communications, helps bring us closer to entering the long distance market in Massachusetts," sail Bill McIntyre, NYNEX Vice President - Massachusetts. NYNEX has been engaged in negotiations with more than a dozen telecommunications carriers in order to complete the interconnection agreements required to meet the 14-point checklist detailed in the Telecommunications Act of 1996. NYNEX reached comprehensive interconnection agreements Aug. 13 with WinStar in New York and July 31 with Hyperion Cable in Vermont. NYNEX announced earlier today that it has signed an interconnection agreement with Teleport Communications Group in New York.
