Access Lines
The communications link between a serving central office and the IP that
provides access to the dedicated Audiotex network (with the exception of
dedicated facilities such as private lines).
Answer/Disconnect Supervision
A supervisor equipment signal, sometimes referred to as "on-hook, off-hook,"
which indicates that an incoming call has been answered or disconnected.
Audiotex
A term used to identify an emerging industry that enables telephone end users
to receive a variety of telephone-based information and entertainment services.
Audiotex Repair Center
A repair group in the NYNEX-New York East 56th Street Central Serving Office
responsible for handling repair requests and inquiries from Information
Providers regarding their Audiotex Services.
Central Office
A telephony term denoting a switching facility or center at which the
customer's local voice and data loops terminate.
Customer Call Reports
A two part monthly informational report mailed to IPs which forms the basis
for:
- Payment due the IP from New York Telephone.
- Charges due NYNEX from the IP.
The Vendor Processing Information Report shows how NYNEX charges for service
were determined, based upon the number of initial calls, number of additional
minutes, total calls from all area codes, and total 20 second disconnects (kill
messages) when applicable. The Vendor Payment Report Provides IPs with an
accounting of the calls made by and actually billed to telephone users calling
their programs during an individual month.
East 56th Street Central Office Area
The geographic area within Manhattan from which NYNEX provides MAS service to
IPs . It is bounded generally by the FDR Drive on the East, Fifth Avenue on the
West, East 64th Street on the North, East 46th Street on the South, and
includes Roosevelt Island.
Equipment Provider
A manufacturer and/or distributor of MAS equipment.
Gold Number Service
A service offered by NYNEX which enables IPs to request and be assigned a
specific combination of the last four digits for its MAS program number.
Group Bridging Service (GBS)
A NYNEX service that enables IPs to offer a teleconferencing service through
which callers can join ongoing group conversations.
InfoFone
The brand name for the NYNEX family of Audiotex products and services.
Information Provider (IP)
An individual or company that provides an information service, in voice, text,
or electronic form.
Interactive Information Network Service (IINS)
A NYNEX Service that enables IPs to offer customers a pre-recorded announcement
or interactive program with an automatic disconnect occurring after one
complete program cycle.
Information Numbering Plan Service (INPS)
A NYNEX service that enables IPs to offer customers a pre-recorded
announcement, interactive program, live conversation, or any combination
thereof, all for the price of a local call.

Local Access Transport Area (LATA)
The name given to the many local telephone service areas in the United States.
It denotes a geographic area established for the provision and administration
of local communication service. NYNEX downstate InfoFone Services reach the
212, 516, 718 and parts of the 914 Area Codes.
Mass Announcement Service (MAS)
A telecommunications network of NYNEX which enables IPs to offer a 57-second
prerecorded message to many telephone end users simultaneously.
Mileage Charges
The additional charges outlined in Section 7 (Voice Grade Interoffice Mileage
Schedule) of the PSC No.900 Tariff to the IP if it locates its equipment
outside of the designated Central Office location.
Numbering Plan Area (NPA)
The NPA is commonly referred to as the Area Code. NYNEX InfoFone Service
offering is currently available in the 212, 718, 516, 914, 518, 315, 716 and
607 NPAs.
NYNEX Systems Marketing (NSM)
An organization within NYNEX which issues Service Order Identifier (SOlD)
numbers, receives installation inquiries, and sells a selected array of NYNEX
service offerings.
Plug-In Network (PIN) Position
An assignment of a piece of plug-in equipment to a particular location in a bay
of P lines. Each jack has a specific PIN location.
Public Service Commission (PSC)
A governing body established by the State of New York to regulate many
activities of NYNEX.
PSC No.900 Tariff
The tariff filed with the New York State Public Commission within which the
IINS Tariff is found. The INS Tariff is PSC No.900 Section 2.
Repair Service Bureau
A repair group in NYNEX Central Serving Office responsible for handling repair
requests and inquiries from Information Providers regarding their InfoFone
Services.
Service Order Identifier (SOlD)
An internally assigned number used to identify specific IINS orders in NYNEX
Service Order Processing (SOP) system.
Space Broker
A business designed to lend support to IPs by leasing space, leasing equipment,
offering security, and a wide array of technical support.
Subscriber Selected Price
The price for calls, established by the Information Provider, to IINS programs
and service applicable to telephone end users.
Tariff
A document filed with the New York State Public Service Commission which
identifies specific terms and conditions under which NYNEX provides service.
Touch-Tone Service
A service which enables the end user's push button telephone to transmit an
electronic sound (multi-frequency tones) at the push of each button, which
places calls faster than a rotary "direct current pulse" phone. Touch-Tone
service is helpful in accessing NYNEX InfoFone Services offerings.
Wide Area Telephone Service (WATS)
A service which enables the subscriber to make unlimited outgoing calls for a
fixed price. Prices vary based on the geographic coverage.
