INFOFONE -- FAQs

You're almost ready to talk to a NYNEX Marketing Representative, but what should you be prepared to discuss with them? Here are some questions that are sure to come up...

Money
How much start-up capital can you put toward your venture? How much working capital will you have to get you through the first year?

What kind of cash flow can you expect your program to generate?

Marketing
What will you tell the public about your new program? Is it fun? Does it offer vital information? Is it unique, unlike any other program currently available?

Who will tell about it? Is it a very specialized type of program, appealing to a certain profession or age group? Is it of general interest?

How will you get the word out? What kinds of advertising or publicity will reach the people who would call your service?

Mechanics
Will your program be recorded or live? Will you have a Group Bridging Service that requires a monitor?

Who will produce your recordings? How often will they need updating? Who will write and record the updates?

Who will maintain your terminating equipment and check the quality of your transmission?

As you can see, there are a lot of things to consider in setting up and operating an audiotex program. But you'll have all the help you need...every step of the way.

What is your role as IP?
(Using MAS as an example)

Today, virtually any individual or organization can become an Information Provider. All that's required is a program idea and the relatively low start-up capital. IPs today include:

  • Small entrepreneurs with one or more programs operating in a single market.
  • Larger companies with a variety of programs and services in many markets.
  • Large institutions that use this new information medium as an innovative expansion of their core business.

As an IP, you are solely responsible for the development of your MAS program. Content is limited only by an IP's imagination, a feeling for what customers want and, of course, the law (if a program's content is found to be unlawful, NYNEX reserves the right to terminate service, and NYNEX assumes no liability for the content or quality of IP programs.)

You may also want to consider our Gold Number Service to create a memorable or easy to dial number for your new audiotex service.

As an IP, you are also solely responsible for advertising and promotion of your MAS program. There are a variety of vehicles IP's can use to get the program message out. They include:

  • Paid advertising in newspapers and magazines, on radio and television, on billboards and in telephone directories.
  • Promotional tags on one MAS program encouraging callers to call another of your programs.
  • The distribution of flyers, posters, bumper stickers, etc.
  • Publicity generated through the distribution of press releases about the program or direct contact with the media.

What does NYNEX do?
(Again, using MAS)

NYNEX provides IPs with the following services:

  • A 976 telephone number.
  • The communication medium through which to offer MAS programs (also referred to as "transport services").
  • Billing and Collection Services.
  • Customer Support.
