Westinghouse Electric Corporation Selects Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile For Nationwide Wireless Services

Cellular Leader to Provide 11,000 Lines in Three-Year, Multi-million Dollar Deal

BEDMINSTER, N.J., June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile has been selected by Westinghouse Electric Corp. (NYSE: WX) as its nationwide provider for wireless voice and data services. The two companies signed a three-year contract through which Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile will provide wireless services for Westinghouse, its wholly or majority-owned subsidiaries, affiliates, and joint ventures, including CBS affiliate television and radio stations throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

The contract calls for Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile to provide an estimated 11,000 cellular lines in Westinghouse's thirteen core locations throughout the country, with new regions added as the contract is fully implemented. Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile was one of six wireless providers invited to bid on this contract.

"Our partnership with Westinghouse demonstrates our unique, national wireless capabilities," said Dennis F. Strigl, president and chief executive officer of Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile. "Our east coast coverage footprint, which matches most of the core Westinghouse locations, combined with alliance partnerships, allowed us to put together quickly a solution that best met Westinghouse's requirements."

Jerry Fountain, regional vice president for Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile in Pittsburgh, said the account is centralized and will be managed in the Pittsburgh Region.

"We will give Westinghouse one point of contact for all their wireless needs," Fountain explained. "Our Pittsburgh staff will, in turn, work with key customer contacts in each region to maximize the benefits for Westinghouse and minimize their staff involvement in the day-to-day function of their wireless services."

"Prior to the formation of our joint venture last year, both Bell Atlantic Mobile and NYNEX Mobile served Westinghouse in different markets," Strigl said. "The strong relationship established in those regions served as a basis on which we could build this national program. We look forward to working closely with Westinghouse to provide them wire less video capabilities and to launch new technologies as they evolve."

Westinghouse, which also owns CBS, Inc., is the nation's largest broadcaster with 39 radio stations and 15 television stations. Its industrial and technology businesses are among the market and technology leaders in mobile transport refrigeration, power systems, government operations, and communications.
