June 3, 1996 NYNEX CONTACT: Media Relations, (212) 395-0500 NYNEX Files To Offer Long Distance Service In Four States WASHINGTON -- NYNEX today announced it has filed requests to resell long distance telephone service in Arizona, California, Florida and Illinois. The filings are part of NYNEX's plan to rapidly provide a full array of long distance services to customers throughout its Northeast service area as well as in select domestic and international markets outside its region. "We anticipate receiving approval to resell long distance service in these four states within the next three months," said Don Evans, Vice President, Federal Regulatory Planning. "We selected these states first based on existing vigorous long distance markets, high volume of communications into the NYNEX region and good NYNEX name recognition." On February 23, NYNEX became the first Regional Bell Operating Company to file to provide international long distance service, which has the most rapid growth and the highest margins in the long distance market. NYNEX expects to begin providing "out-of-region" international service this summer. NYNEX will resell the long distance communications services of Sprint Communications Company with which it entered into a comprehensive agreement on April 23. The agreement allows NYNEX to quickly enter long distance markets while providing the company with the flexibility to develop and package with its long distance service a full line of cellular, paging, Internet access, video and entertainment services.
