Nynex Chairman Praises Passage Of Telecommunications Bill

New York, NY -- Ivan Seidenberg NYNEX Chairman and CEO said today:

"We applaud Congress for making history. From the beginning, this legislation has been about choice and value for the American people. And today, consumers won.

This bill sets the stage for real competition to develop in local and long distance telephone and for cable TV. And by removing legal and regulatory barriers to markets, this legislation will dramatically stimulate the economy and create thousands of new jobs in the NYNEX region over the next decade.

NYNEX will offer consumers value and simplicity for long distance service as soon as possible under the terms of the legislation and applicable regulations. NYNEX already is ahead of others in meeting the requirements for entering the long distance business, due to the progressive regulatory climate in the Northeast and the steps NYNEX has taken at the state level to foster competition. Once into long distance, we will be able to offer complete packages of communications and information services tailored to the needs of individual customers.

At last, customers will find out what `true choice' really means."

NYNEX is a global communications and media company that provides a full range of services in the northeastern United States and high-growth markets around the world, including the United Kingdom, Thailand, Gibraltar, Greece, Indonesia, the Philippines, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
