April 2, 1996 NYNEX CONTACT: Media Relations, (212) 395-0500 NYNEX Lowers Access Rates by $69 million WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In its annual interstate access tariff filing made today with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), NYNEX reduced its interstate access rates by $69 million, which represents a three percent rate reduction. Over the past five years, NYNEX has reduced its interstate access rates by approximately $800 million. The new rates become effective July 1, 1996. NYNEX operates in the most competitive marketplace in the nation stated Don Evans, vice president, federal regulatory matters, NYNEX. In order to compete effectively in the marketplace we must price our products competitively. Thats why in each of the past five years, NYNEX has reduced the prices it charges interexchange carriers to access the NYNEX network. With this filing, NYNEX, for the first time, is able to take advantage of the incentives the FCC has in its price cap plan. These incentives provide for greater rate reductions in exchange for pure price cap regulation, added Evans.
