December 7, 1995 NYNEX CONTACT: Media Relations, (212) 395-0500 Eugene Connell To Assume New Responsibilities at NYNEX; John Killian To Succeed Him at NYNEX CableComms NEW YORK - NYNEX Corporation (NYSE:NYN) announced today that Eugene P. Connell, president and chief executive officer of NYNEX CableComms Group (NASDAQ:NYNCY), its communications affiliate in the United Kingdom, will become executive vice president for the NYNEX Worldwide Communications and Media Group, and that John F. Killian, NYNEX CableComms chief operating officer, will succeed him at CableComms. The changes are effective Jan. 1, 1996. In his new position, Connell will be responsible for accelerating the delivery of NYNEX's media capabilities to customers around the world and for developing other global marketing capabilities with NYNEX's operating units and partners. "In three and a half years at NYNEX CableComms, Gene Connell built -- literally from the ground up -- one of the world's first companies to successfully provide cable television and telecommunications services over the same network," said Richard W. Blackburn, president and group executive - NYNEX Worldwide Communications and Media Group. "With his experience in both the United States and the United Kingdom, he understands how customers' needs vary across borders -- and how they remain the same. This kind of knowledge makes him the right person to help NYNEX address the global market needs of customers." NYNEX CableComms has grown into one of the UK's leading communications companies, with 16 franchises covering 2.7 million homes and 167,500 businesses. CableComms' advanced fiber optic-based broadband network now passes more than 1.1 million of those homes, and the number of its cable television customers has grown to 165,000 while the number of telecommunications customers exceeds 200,000. CableComms is quoted on NASDAQ and listed on the London Stock Exchange following an initial public offering completed earlier this year. Since joining CableComms in March 1995 as chief operating officer, Killian has overseen all day-to-day operations, including network development, sales and expansion of customer service capabilities. "With John's focus on quality and operations excellence, in the past nine months CableComms has doubled its revenues over the same period last year while accelerating construction of a robust, low-cost infrastructure and creating an exemplary customer service organization," Blackburn said. "His experience in numerous senior assignments at NYNEX has given him exceptionally well-rounded knowledge of the operations and strategy of a communications and media company, and he is ideally suited to take CableComms through the next phase of its development." Before joining NYNEX CableComms, Killian spent 15 years with NYNEX in positions of increasing responsibility in accounting, finance and budgets, market planning, external relations and operations, including the vice presidency of Massachusetts for NYNEX Telecommunications. A certified public accountant, he began his career at the firm now known as KPMG Peat Marwick. He holds degrees from Providence College and Bentley College.
