PCS PrimeCo Names New CEO

DALLAS -- PCS PrimeCo, L.P, the personal communications services (PCS) limited partnership of AirTouch (NYSE: ATI), Bell Atlantic (NYSE: BEL), NYNEX (NYSE: NYN) and US WEST [NYSE: USW), today announced that Benjamin L. Scott has been elected by the company's executive committee to the position of president and chief executive officer, effective immediately.

"PrimeCo will benefit immensely from Ben's wireless communications experience," said Lee Cox, vice chairman of AirTouch Communications and chairman of PCS PrimeCo's executive committee. "Ben will assume leadership of a topflight management team that's already in place. His first priority will be finalizing the network vendor contracts which are nearly complete."

Scott, age 45, previously had been president and chief executive officer of Bell Atlantic International Wireless, a position he bad held since May 1994. While there, he was instrumental in developing and expanding Bell Atlantic's global wireless interests, which cover a population of 140 million people in extremely high-growth European, Pacific Rim and North American countries.

Scott joined Bell Atlantic Mobile in October 1991 and held various positions, including executive vice president and chief operating officer and vice president operations and chief operating officer.

While at the company, he played a key role in maintaining the highest levels of customer service at a time when the company was experiencing more than 50 percent annual customer growth. He established low cost distribution channel strategies that drove acquisition costs down, including Bell Atlantic Mobile's Communications Stores. He also was responsible for developing and delivering to market pioneering wireless data services and applications that earned for Bell Atlantic a reputation as the leader in the data field.

From 1979 until 1991, Scott held a number of senior positions at AT&T, including president and CEO of AT&T Canada. He began his telecommunications career in the sales division of C&P Telephone Company of Virginia in 1971.

Scott was born in Virginia and received his bachelor of science degree in psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He and his wife, Gayle, will relocate to Dallas, Texas.

Scott replaces George Schmitt, 52, who has resigned to pursue other business interests.

The PCS PrimeCo partnership, headquartered in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, was formed in October 1994. The company won 11 licenses in the Federal Communication Commission's PCS auction that ended in March, covering 57 million people in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans, Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, Richmond, Chicago, Milwaukee and Honolulu. PCS PrimeCo and its four owners plan to create a nationwide wireless network by connecting their existing cellular properties and PrimeCo's new PCS licenses. The partners' combined cellular and PCS "footprint" covers 26 of the nation's major markets representing nearly 170 million potential customers.
