NYNEX Names Former Viacom Executive Steven Fadem to Senior Entertainment Post

NEW YORK CITY -- NYNEX (NYSE:NYN) announced the appointment of former Viacom executive Steven S. Fadem to the newly created position of executive vice president -- Media Enterprises, NYNEX Entertainment and Information Services Group (NEIS).

Fadem, 44, will be responsible for managing all domestic and international strategic alliances, joint ventures and partnerships formed by NEIS. Fadem will report to NEIS Chairman Walt Rickard.

In his new position, Fadem will manage the day-to-day activities of NYNEX's strategic alliance with Viacom Inc. In October of 1993, NYNEX announced a $1.2 billion investment in Viacom, the rapidly growing entertainment and publishing company.

Fadem also will serve as NYNEX's liaison with its entertainment and information services interests, including TELE-TV, the company's entertainment and technology partnership with Bell Atlantic, Pacific Telesis and Creative Artists Agency; CAI Wireless, Inc., an Albany, N.Y.-based provider of wireless cable services; NYNEX CableComms, a leading provider of cable television and telephony services in the United Kingdom; and TelecomAsia, which is building an advanced cable and telephony network in Bangkok, Thailand.

In addition, Fadem will provide entertainment industry expertise and counsel to the NYNEX Video Services Organization, the retail distribution division of NEIS.

"Steve's knowledge of the entertainment and communications industries and his unique relationship with Viacom make him the ideal choice for this new position," said Walt Rickard, chairman, NYNEX Entertainment and Information Services Group. "He will play a key role in positioning NYNEX for growth in these exciting new markets."

Prior to joining NYNEX, Fadem served as senior vice president, Business Affairs for the Viacom Entertainment Group since 1993. During that time, he directed business affairs for the groups entertainment and media operations, including Viacom Enterprises and Viacom Productions, which produce and distribute television programming for network television, cable and first run syndication.

Fadem has an extensive background in communications and entertainment law and business affairs. While at Viacom, he was responsible for negotiating program acquisition and development, merchandising and licensing agreements, as well as legal negotiations with artists and programmers.

Prior to joining Viacom, Fadem held senior positions at Multimedia Entertainment, Inc. and Warner Amex Cable in New York. As vice president, Business Affairs and General Counsel at Multimedia Entertainment, he managed legal and business affairs for the Donahue, Sally Jessy Raphael, and Rush Limbaugh shows.

Earlier, Fadem served as Viacom's associate general counsel in charge of all cable, broadcast and related regulatory matters. Before that, he was an attorney for the Broadcast and Common Carrier Bureaus of the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C.

Fadem earned his J.D. from the Emory University School of Law in 1975 and received an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton School in 1972.
