June 6, 1995 NYNEX CONTACT: Media Relations, (212) 395-0500 NYNEX Signs Agreement for ACC National Telecom Corp. To Interconnect With the NYNEX Network in New York NYNEX announced today that it has signed an interconnection agreement with Rochester, NY-based ACC National Telecom Corp. (ANTC) that continues NYNEX's leadership role in enabling competition for local telecommunications services in the New York and Massachusetts markets. The agreement defines the technical and financial terms under which NYNEX and ANTC will interconnect their networks and exchange telephone traffic between NYNEX and ANTC customers. Jack Goldberg, NYNEX vice president - Network Interconnection Marketing and Sales, said, "We're putting in place agreements that foster the evolution of competition for local phone service in New York. We recognize that competition is here and is going to intensify. We're looking at the best possible terms that will be fair for our business and for our competitors -- and we're moving forward." He continued, "These developing business relationships also represent wholesale opportunities for NYNEX. Some competitive providers may be purchasing network interconnection elements from us to complement their provision of local telephone service. "At the same time NYNEX is putting in place these progressive agreements to advance competition in the industry," Goldberg added, "we are urging regulators and lawmakers to keep public policy on track with the realities of the marketplace. These interconnection agreements prove that the regulations that restrict NYNEX from competing in other markets are outdated and unwarranted. NYNEX's goal is to be able to meet all the communications requirements of our customers -- just as our competitors can." This is the sixth interconnection agreement NYNEX has reached with a competitor in the past 10 months. NYNEX signed pacts with Teleport Communications Group in New York on July 1, 1994, Metropolitan Fiber Systems in New York on Jan. 24, 1995, Cablevision Systems Lightpath, Inc., in New York on Feb. 16, 1995, Metropolitan Fiber Systems in Massachusetts on April 19, 1995, and Teleport Communications Group in Massachusetts on May 5, 1995. Like the other agreements, the ANTC agreement includes provisions for number portability to enable users to change local service providers without changing phone numbers. NYNEX has 10 million telephone access lines in New York, serving approximately 7.5 million business and residence customers statewide.
