NYNEX Invests in Infoseek CYBERSPACE -- NYNEX, which recently launched BigYellow(sm), the online shopping directory of over 16 million businesses in the U.S., is joining forces with Infoseek Corporation of Santa Clara, California. NYNEX's investment will buy a 5% preferred equity interest in Infoseek. The dynamic combination of electronic Yellow Pages and a powerful indexing engine will provide cybernauts with a top-notch service and a fun way to shop and do business via your computer. President and CEO of NYNEX Information Resources Company, Matthew J. Stover, is enthusiastic about the venture. "Infoseek's search engine capability, technology innovation and commitment to building a customer-focused business complements BigYellow's vision to be the best service to enable people to shop and complete transactions on the Internet," he said. Mr. Stover was newly-elected to join Infoseek's Board of Directors. As the World Wide Web grows with seemingly endless possibilities, Robin Johnson, President and CEO of Infoseek, also looks forward to developing its next generation of search engine technology by working with NYNEX. "We are pleased that NYNEX has shown such confidence in our company and technology [and we'll] continue our efforts to closely integrate Infoseek and BigYellow services and technologies to benefit our customers," Johnson said. Infoseek's leading Internet navigation service, called Infoseek Guide, just received the 1996 PC World Pro/E award for Best Internet Search Engine.
